Purchase related questions

Q: What license size do I need to buy?
A: Activity Monitor licensing is based on the number of computers where you install Monitor or Agent. It includes all computers that you are going to monitor and computers from which monitoring is done. Every manager’s or administrator’s PC used for monitoring requires a license. If you install Monitor on a server for collecting logs, it requires a license too.
You will not be able to use it on more computers than the license size you purchase. Activity Monitor is available in several packages of fixed license size: 3, 6, 12, 25, 50, etc. (View available licenses).
Example #1: 2 managers want to monitor employees on 10 computers in the office. You need 12 computers license.
Example #2: 1 manager wants to monitor 14 computers in the office. You need 15 computers license (buy 12 computers base license + 3 Extra licenses).
Q: I have purchased Activity Monitor 6 computers license. We have just bought 2 more new computers for our office. How can I monitor our new computers also?
A: You need to buy 2 Extra Licenses for your new computers and add them to your base license of Activity Monitor. You will then have 8 computers license.
You also have an option to upgrade to the next available base license size. For example, you can upgrade from 6 computers to 50 computers license. It can be purchased with the discount on our web site. Contact us for license size extension
Q: What happens after I purchase Activity Monitor?
A: After you pay you will instantly receive the download link for the fully functional product and your license code. Delivery is performed via email. Then you may download and install full version of Activity Monitor. Sometimes in rare cases you may be required to wait for a few hours before you receive the email with the download link and registration information.
Q: Is there any hidden fees?
A: There is only one flat fee that you pay once and own the license for the product forever. Period.
Q: Do I get technical support with my purchase?
A: All registered users get 1 year of technical support for free. To get support after initial 1 year you need to purchase 1-year Updates and Support Plan before the end of first year. It also gives you updates and more.
Get tech support now at SoftActivity Online Support Center
Q: How about the version upgrades after I buy this software?
A: We work on improving our software constantly. Product updates and fixes are available often. Registered users get all version upgrades for free during 1 year since purchase. We will email you update instructions as soon as new version is released. To stay with the latest version of Activity Monitor after initial 1 year you need to purchase 1-year Updates and Support Plan before the end of first year. It also gives you access to beta versions, tech support and more.
Q: Can our organization buy Activity Monitor with Purchase Order?
A: We accept Purchase Orders from the companies and organizations for the amounts starting at $100. We allow a payment deadline of 30 days from purchase. To order click Buy Now link on the online order page as your Method of payment. Follow the instructions and fax your purchase order to Plimus. Plimus Inc is a payment processing company that collects payments for Deep Software Inc.
Q: I purchased your software with my credit card. What charge will I see in my credit card statement?
Please note that the charge on your credit card statement sent to you by your credit card company will appear as: PLI*DEEPSOFTWARE. PLI is for Plimus that is Deep Software's partner who is processing orders for our software
Q: Is this a subscription, do we need to pay anything after 1 year?
A: In short, No. Activity Monitor software license is not a subscription. You can buy the license once and use it forever.
You even get 1 year of minor and major updates and support absolutely free. After first year you may continue using the software as you did before. Or you have an option to pay for another year of support and updates. You can buy our Gold Maintenance Plan here (optional)

Q: Computer in the Remote Agents list shows up as Offline, but actually it is turned on
A: First make sure that you installed Agent on the remote computer. Then check if Activity Monitor and Agent are not blocked by the firewalls. You can allow all communications for them in the firewall settings or open ports described in one of the questions below. More info
Q: Anti-spyware or Antivirus software prevents me from installing Activity Monitor, Agent or SoftActivity Keylogger. Or it disables my monitoring software
A: If you are knowingly installing Activity Monitor, Activity Monitor Agent or Activity Logger software on and you own this computer or have owner's authorization, you may easily disable warnings in AntiSpyware. So monitored users will not be able to detect presence of monitoring software
We have created instructions for setting up Excludes for SoftActivity software in several popular anti-spyware programs

How to use Activity Monitor with Symantec Antivirus
SoftActivity software with McAfee AntiSpyware
Similar steps can be taken to run Activity Monitor and Activity Logger with other anti-virus and anti-spyware programs you may have.

Q: I have installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 and now Agents appear offline in Activity Monitor
A: Service Pack 2 installs Windows Firewall that is turned on by default. First, you need to upgrade your Activity Monitor to the latest available version. You should then allow all communication for Activity Monitor when Windows Firewall asks you. When you install Agent it creates a special rule in Windows Firewall that opens port #15164. This will allow to monitor this computer from Activity Monitor. You should be logged on as the user with Administrator privileges when installing Agent locally. When installing Agent remotely you should have Administrator rights on this computer.
Q: How can I install Agent on the remote computer?
A: The easiest way is to install Agent remotely. Click File-Install Agent menu in Activity Monitor. Enter or select computer name (you may also enter IP address there). You should be either logged on as a user with Administrator privileges on the remote computer or enter the password for the user with such rights. So only computer Administrators can install Agent remotely.
You may also install Agent locally on that computer. Go to that computer and run amagent.exe file from the floppy or shared network location.
For more detailed information read Activity Monitor Help - How to Install Agent
Q: Can Activity Monitor connect to the computers through Internet?
Basically it can, but there are certain limitations. You need direct IP connection between computers, proxy servers are not supported. You should be able to ping the remote computer. Also it's preferable that both computers have static IP addresses. You may install Agent remotely only if you know local Administrator password for that computer. Communications between Activity Monitor and Agents are encrypted using SSL for best security.

It's much easier if you have a VPN connection to your office. In that case you should be able to monitor computers at the office remotely or vice versa.

If you want to monitor your office computers from home you can do this: Install Activity Monitor on one of the computers in your office network. Connect to that computer via Remote Desktop from home. Open Activity Monitor there. Then you can work with Activity Monitor as if you were sitting on that computer.

We recommend using our SoftActivity Keylogger software for the computers located outside your LAN. It can record same log file as Activity Monitor and email it to you periodically. It will work if a person travels with a laptop, for example.
Q: How to uninstall Agent from the remote computer?
A: In the full version you may uninstall Agent remotely. Right click the computer in Remote Agents list in Activity Monitor. Then click Uninstall Agent. Agent will be uninstalled from the selected remote computer silently. Other way to uninstall Agent is to run unins000.exe located in Agent folder (by default, c:\program files\amsys) on the remote computer. After uninstalling Agent you need delete it from the list in Activity Monitor.
Q: How to check if employees play games or visit inappropriate websites during work time?
A: Install Activity Monitor on your computer. Install Agent on the networked computers you want to monitor. Monitor those remote computers in real time.
Then you may close Activity Monitor on your computer.
Next day open Activity Monitor and click Collect Recording from All Computers button in toolbar. Click Open Central Logs Database button. In SoftActivity Reports click a user name on the left side. Select Top Programs tab on top to view what programs he used and for how long, including games.
Click Top Websites to view what websites he visited.
Q: What network protocols does Activity Monitor use for communications?
A: It uses TCP IP protocol with SSL encryption. Activity Monitor uses IP ports 15163(TCP), 15165(UDP). Agent program uses port 15163(TCP) and 15164(UDP). They should be free for the software to work properly.
If you have a firewall installed, you need to enable communications through these ports for Activity Monitor: process name for firewall rule is C:\Program Files\SoftActivity\Activity Monitor\swatcher.exe
Agent process name for firewall rule: C:\Program Files\SoftActivity\Amsys\amsvc.exe
Rule in Windows firewall for Agent is created automatically when Agent is installed.
Q: I have installed Activity Monitor Agent on a computer in LAN. And this computer does not appear in Remote Agents list in Activity Monitor.
A: This may happen if the client computer is in another network segment. So this computer cannot be detected automatically. In this case you should add it manually. Click "Add computer" and enter its IP address or host name, then click OK.
Another possible reasons include:
- firewall installed on your or remote computer that blocks Activity Monitor communications
- antivirus or antispyware keeps deleting/disabling Agent on the remote PC. Add it to excludes
(More info)
Q: I can see the remote computer is online in list. But when I doubleclick on this computer Activity Monitor does not connect to it.
A: Possibly TCP communications between Activity Monitor and Agent are blocked by a firewall. Add firewall rules allowing communications for Agent and Monitor on TCP and UDP ports specified above or even better all communications.
Q: I tried to reinstall Activity Monitor Agent, but I cannot do it because of sharing violation error messages.
A: It means that Activity Monitor Agent is running now. Try to uninstall it first, restart computer and then run installation again. Although it's not required normally to uninstall Agent. You can simply install new version over the old one.
Problem: Connecting to the remote agents from the console always displays the agents as disconnected. Windows XP SP2, laptop
Solution: The Activity Monitor Software will always display the agents as disconnected if you have two IP addresses to the workstation. This was a problem because during install I did not have the wireless card enabled. I was trying to run the monitoring software with the laptop on the docking station and with the wireless card enabled.
I found this by trying to re-install the application and it asking which interface to use for primary communication. I have since disabled the wireless connection and it works perfectly. Another way to fix this would be to open Options in Activity Monitor, go to Binding settings and select IP address of the network interface that connects you to Agents.
